In this blog post, Olivia + Laura share how to elevate your fall basics for the perfect capsule wardrobe.

Fall is here, and instead of complaining, we will use this opportunity to take advantage of the season with the best fashion sense.

Layering pieces, outwear, boots, and bags are among the items we pull out of our closets yearly. These are often capsule wardrobe pieces that have been with us for years. We love basics that we can transition from fall to winter to spring, but sometimes we need to spice it up. We need to make the basics not-so-basic.

So we are outlining the 5 swaps you can make to upgrade your wardrobe and still be able to wear them for years to come.

Instead of Black Boots, try Cowboy Boots

We know what you're thinking. "How are cowboy boots basic" . But, take a look at the pictures. We are not steering away from the norm, we are just adding some flair with a rectangular heel and pointed toe. Shop some options from Simons and Steve Madden.

Instead of Leather Jackets, try Oversized Jackets

The leather jacket has been around for longer than most of us have been alive. This trend is never going to die so it's the smart fashion choice to get a leather jacket. We are especially loving the oversized leather jacket look. Not only does it add and effortless look to an outfit but it is also perfect for layering because of the bagginess.

Instead of Canvas Tote Bags, try Leather Tote Bags

Canvas tote bags are not built for the rainy fall weather or snowy winter weather so instead, try a leather tote bag — and even better, maybe with a zipper! They are sure to last you longer than one made of canvas, and they're easier to wash too!

Instead of Mini Skirts, try Midi Skirts

With the weather beginning to change, we're swapping out our mini skirts for midi skirts (or dresses)! We're eyeing knit midi skirts this season, style them with a tall pair of knee-high boots and you'll look straight off the runway!

Instead of Plaid Shackets, try Long Shackets/Coats

While the plaid shacket has been trending for quite a few seasons now, we are transitioning towards a more sophisticated, single coloured, long shacket. Being a solid colour, there are more opportunities to either dress it up or down!

Thank you for reading this week's blog post! We hope it inspired you to elevate the basics in your wardrobe for a more sophisticated look!
